Opening the drawer in my house where the family photos were. Picking up, feeling, soothing, turning, straightening, stacking, then putting down. Sights and thoughts traveled to and flowed between the boundaries of the frame. My fingers rubbed the surface of the printing paper to feel the age. Those same movements are performed over and over again at different stages of life. Again, pick it up_before placing it. Perceive and immerse myself in the daily needs that transcend memory and reality, meaning and materiality.
Therefore, the flow of all consciousness invariably starts from a developed photograph or an image that can be taken. To take care of, to conjecture, to imagine.

⎕ A photo of my mother sitting on a grassy slope
The graduation trip took place in the 1980s, which also happened to be the year of the lifting of martial law in Taiwan. It was a lovely day, and the weather looked glorious. The Grass and sky shone almost golden. My mother was facing the camera with her hands resting between her knees, sitting gracefully in the shade of trees. Perhaps the person who took this picture was also on the side of the trees. In the distance, beyond my mother, there was a woman in a one-piece dress and a sun hat upright, standing straight and staring far away.
I think she was undoubtedly staring at me because I saw her too.
This photo has kept an impression on my heart since I met her. I often think that staring at photos is like a process of confirming a relationship. We grope the distance, perspective, and position between us, and establish the way to look at each other, and then look for the opportunity to be appropriate.
☐☐ Two blank square canvases glued to the wall
Bopiliao was a place that had experienced expropriation, eviction, stagnation, reconstruction, placement, and reopening between the 1990s and 2000s. People who used to live here had left, and dwellings were thus as empty as new. The “collage-like spatial configuration” now lost the connection with the old times, also the original context is missing. Culture and the neighborhood's texture in this district are no longer present. It's a challenge to find the entrance to the past in this place. However, it has also become my desire.
Two blank square canvases were glued to the wall which was for projecting the introductory video of the Taipei Film Festival. These Two blank squares are designed to cover the holes in the wall. But under the subtle illumination of the projected light, both are unexpectedly independent and objective. The boundaries between canvases and the wall provide the essential to let the ever-changing images linger briefly. I think they are my entrances.

﹅ Vertical and Horizontal
Album, frame, screen, window… Generating an image is a matter of touching the boundaries in the frame, and consistently gathering samples back and forth. Some things fit into a horizontal frame, while others need to be seen in a vertical way. The crying baby was lying on the bed; the girl standing on the Peace Memorial Stone is in a vertical composition, that strange woman in the background may no longer exist; my mother might be standing straight before sitting on the grassy slope, right?
